Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal

Professor of Climate Change and Energy, Asian Institute of Technology

Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal is a Professor of Climate Change and Energy at the Asian Institute of Technology. He is currently serving as a Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) of the IPCC’s ongoing Special Report on Climate Change and Cities, and previously served as CLA in the IPCC’s Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports. His expertise includes cities and climate change, climate policies and net-zero transitions, climate finance, energy policy and modelling, and SDG trade-offs and synergies.

He provides scientific leadership in international scientific assessments, global change research communities, and science–policy–practice interfacing. He currently leads the CLARE-ASEAN initiative, funded by FCDO and IDRC, which aims to accelerate regional research to enhance urban resilience to climate change in ASEAN.
